HOUR OF CODE Webinar for Kids
On December 9, nearly 10,000 students joined us for a magical hour of coding and math with our very own Bryan Miller who guided them through an exciting, story-based Math Activity that is part of Class Connect. Using Blockly and our virtual robot, Dash's Neighborhood, kids solved the standards-aligned math puzzle and used the solution to provide Dash with the code he needed to move through the challenge. Now your students can watch along and solve the math challenges too!
Bryan L. Miller is the Senior Director of Global Strategic Outreach at Wonder Workshop. He is an international keynote presenter and consultant in the areas of coding, robotics, and STEAM education. He is also a former kindergarten teacher, K-5 computer teacher and Director of Educational Technology at one of the largest independent schools in the US.

In the lesson, students work on shape patterns. They analyze a given pattern and identify a future shape in the pattern. Their understanding of the relationships within a pattern allow them to visualize the shape that Dash has to “skate” out in the competition. At the end of the lesson, students show their understanding of patterns by drawing the shape that should come next immediately or later in a given pattern.

This Math lesson was developed in partnership with AVID- Find additional resources at AVID STEM Connections. As a Class Connects subscriber, you can take advantage of a complimentary, year-long subscription to AVID STEM Connections™ for the 2021-2022 school year.

Combining an always-on progress dashboard, a virtual robot, and just-in-time curricular resources for the instructor, Class Connect makes it easy for teachers to help students learn important skills, even without having a lot of coding experience. And now with Math Activities, Class Connect enables teachers to do more with Dash and use coding to reinforce core curriculum concepts in challenging and innovative ways.
